Coolie, Rajinikanth's 171st film, is one of the most anticipated projects of Tamil Cinema. The film pairs up the legend with Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is currently one of the most popular directors working in the industry.
Rajinikanth's character is named Deva: note that this is the name of the Mammootty character in the iconic 1991 film Thalapathi.
The film has a star-studded, pan-Indian supporting cast of Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj and Upendra. The inclusion of Aamir Khan is yet to be officially announced.
This will be Lokesh's sixth feature film after Maanagaram (2017), Kaithi (2019), Master (2021), Vikram (2022), and Leo (2023), and his first with the superstar.
Anirudh, who has collaborated with Lokesh since their blockbuster album for Master, will compose the music for Coolie, also marking it his third consecutive collaboration with Rajinikanth after Jailer (2023) and Vettaiyan (2024).
