Ahead of the much-anticipated trailer launch, the makers of the action thriller, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, have come under fire for making their posters that reportedly resemble major Hollywood movies.

Several users pointed out how the trailer announcement poster resembled a similar poster from Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon (2023). Another user shared a different poster from Coolie where Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Shruti Haasan along with Rajinikanth are seen in a shattered glass-like image, and compared it to a poster from Dakota Johnson's Madame Web and M Night Shyamalan's Glass.

One user drew parallel between Coolie and Leo, Lokesh's 2023 film, and mentioned how the latter film's posters also took inspiration from film's like Liam Neeson's Cold Pursuit and Telugu short film Aayudham: Weapon. "This isn’t new... remember how Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD design was also copied from an artist earlier? The pattern is hard to ignore," pointed out a person on Twitter.

However, the makers are yet to respond to these allegations. Coolie, slated to release on August 14, is expected to surpass all box office records given the soaring hype around it. The film also stars Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, Rishikanth and Kaali Venkat. Pooja Hegde too makes a cameo appearance in the song 'Monica'. Ahead of its release, the film had been censored with an A certificate, a rare feat for a Rajinikanth film. The filmmaker had also underlined how he wouldn't compromise on the violence in the film, promising raw and gritty action sequences.

Its talented technical crew features music composed by Anirudh, cinematography handled by Girish Gangadharan and editing by Philomin Raj. Coolie is backed by Kalanithi Maran under his Sun Pictures banner.
