On Monday, the reports of higher ticket prices for Coolie and War 2 in Telugu states, compared to its native markets like Tamil Nadu and Hindi belt, sparked huge outrage on social media, with many netizens criticising the distributors for the steep ticket rates. Now producer Rahul Yadav Nakka has expressed his displeasure about the same.
Taking to his X page, Rahul penned, “It’s very very ironical that we as producers, on one side, are fighting not to increase the wages of the Union Workers for valid reasons but on the other, We are so happy and upfront in increasing the ticket prices even for the dubbed movies.”
Rahul, who has produced acclaimed films like Malli Raava and Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, noted that increased ticket prices will be ‘unnecessarily killing theatre experience as well as the repeat audience market’, adding, “I strongly condemn the Price Hike. God help TFI.”
On Monday, reports had come in about Andhra Pradesh-Telangana distributors awaiting government approval for special hikes that could push multiplex ticket prices to Rs 300 - Rs 550, significantly higher than Rs150-Rs 200 for Coolie in Tamil Nadu and Rs180-Rs 250 for War 2 in North India.
The bookings for both the big-scale projects in Telugu states will reportedly begin on Tuesday afternoon.
