With just three days to go for the release of Rajinikanth’s Coolie on August 14, the makers hosted a promotional event in Mumbai to launch the Hindi album of the film. Telugu superstar Nagarjuna was present at the event and shared his experience of working with Rajinikanth in the Lokesh Kanagaraj actioner.

Nagarjuna plays a negative role in the action-thriller. Speaking about working with Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna said, “His charisma and aura were just really great. He helped me with Tamil dialogues and guided me. It was really nice of him. Though I played the most negative role, I take back something very positive with myself after doing the film.”

Nagarjuna said he enjoyed playing a bad character in the film. He said that it took some time for Lokesh to convince him to be part of the film. “I made him work for it. I had to make sure that I was doing the right thing playing a baddie. It took 7-9 meetings before he convinced me to be part of the film,” said Nagarjuna with a smile.

Shruti Haasan also plays a crucial role in the film and was present at the event along with music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Shruti shared her experience of working with Rajinikanth and said, “I unconditionally love my Appa (Kamal Haasan) but I am also a Rajini sir fan. His aura is really something which impresses you the first time you meet him. I remember I had a close up with him in the film where I was seeing his face up close. And I was like, ‘Oh my god’. That is Rajini sir."

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Coolie marks Rajinikanth’s 171st film and reunites him with Sathyaraj after 38 years. The ensemble cast includes Aamir Khan in a special appearance, alongside Upendra and Soubin Shahir.

Awarded an ‘A’ certificate for its intense violenceCoolie has only fuelled audience curiosity. With Rs 50+ crores already secured in worldwide pre-sales for day one and more territories yet to open full bookings, the film is on course to cross Rs 100 crores in advance sales alone. Trade analysts say the momentum puts it firmly in contention for one of the biggest worldwide openings ever for an Indian film, and potentially a record-breaking day one for Tamil cinema.
