Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj recently gave a master class organised by Neelam Social under the name Koogai. At the event, the director spoke for almost 1 hour and 20 minutes, in which he also touched upon the LCU, his upcoming film with Rajinikanth, Coolie, and more.

Speaking about Coolie, the Master director said that Rajinikanth's surgery was scheduled and not an emergency. "Rajini sir knows the value of time of the other actors on the set of Coolie. So his surgery was planned. Now, he will join the sets again for the next schedule on October 16."

Further, he also went on to say that he has planned only 6 months of shooting for Coolie. "I try to finish all my films within six months. That's how I completed Leo also. I plan to complete Coolie also within this six-month period," he said.

An aspiring actor from the crowd asked Lokesh to respond to criticism about overt violence and bloodshed in his films. Speaking about the same, the Leo director said that the violence that has ended up in his films is less than what he had initially planned. "Ever since Kaithi, I have faced restrictions when it comes to action sequences. I agree that as much as I have romanticised violence, I also have the responsibility to tone it down for the family audiences," he explained.

He then went on to speak about his style of action. "I try to ensure that my action sequences do not defy the principles of physics. I have always advised my stunt choreographers against the use of ropes for stunt sequences. That limitation automatically brings in brutality and rawness."

Lokesh then revealed that he would love to make a film like Kill Bill in India. "I wish to make something like Kill Bill with a strong female lead, adapting it to Indian sensibilities. However, a film with so much violence will never be released in theatres or even OTT platforms," he said.

Lokesh Kanagaraj, who last directed Vijay's Leo, is currently working on Coolie, which is backed by Sun Pictures.  Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj and Upendra also star in prominent roles in the film. The film's technical crew comprises cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, editor Philomin, and music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Coolie is scheduled to release worldwide in 2025 in standard and IMAX formats.
