Just days after renaming Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie as Majadoor for the Hindi audience, the film's production banner Sun Pictures has again changed the name. Making the announcement on social media, Kalanithi Maran's production house wrote, "Deva's rage begins in 50 days! Coolie in Hindi is now Coolie The Powerhouse."
Earlier, the film's makers faced plenty of backlash online after they announced Majadoor as the Hindi title for the film while teasing the release date of its first single 'Chikitu'. Many netizens questioned the logic behind the change, with some even rhetorically suggesting that the makers failed to understand the nationwide appeal of its lead actor and original title. Interestingly, some of the internet users also mentioned Coolie The Powerhouse as the alternative title for the film.
Reportedly, the producer has changed the title due to rights issues; notably, the 1983 Amitabh Bachchan starrer is also titled Coolie. Besides Rajinikanth, Coolie stars Satyaraj, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra in key roles. Shruti Haasan, Aamir Khan, and Pooja Hegde are also part of the cast. Lokesh and Chandhru Anbazhagan have written the dialogues for the film, with Chandhru credited for additional screenplay. It has music by Anirudh, choreography by Girish Gangadharan, editing by Philomin Raj, and stunts by Anbariv. Coolie is slated for an August 14 in release in theatres worldwide.
