A while ago, Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures banner dropped the trailer for the highly anticipated Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj film Coolie. Rajinikanth makes an entry to the beats of 'Arangam Adhirattume, Whistle Parakkattume' from Anirudh's song 'Powerhouse,' a celebration of the actor's stardom. The lines roughly translate to: "Let the theatres erupt." Lokesh's film brings together a massive ensemble cast, including Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Nagarjuna, and Aamir Khan, among others. The trailer hints at an age-old conflict between Rajinikanth's Deva and other characters, but we do not know who the antagonists are for certain. Is it Nagarjuna's Simon and/or Soubin's Dayal at the helm of the team who goes up against Rajinikanth's Deva?

At one point of the trailer, Sathyaraj asks Rajinikanth's character, "Who asked you to come here?" Later, we see Shruti Haasan describing a character as her father and Rajinikanth referring to the same person as his friend. Judging by the trailer, Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj seem to be playing friends in the film, whereas Shruti portrays the latter's daughter. There are also visuals of Aamir Khan's character operating a gun.

The Coolie trailer ends with a homage to Rajinikanth's iconic transformation in Baashha. At the same time, Rajinikanth's character says, "Despite knowing about Deva, you are playing with me," even as a part of the 'Powerhouse' song's lyrics goes, "Thalaivan erangi saritham ezhuthave," which essentially means "Rajinikanth is here to write history."
