The other day, the song 'Monica' from Coolie, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, crossed 50 million views on YouTube. Actor Pooja Hegde, who appears in the dance number alongside Soubin Shahir and Rishikanth, took to her Instagram Stories to announce the milestone. The film's makers, Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures recently revealed that the title is a tribute to actor Monica Bellucci.
Recently, Lokesh attributed the inclusion of the song to an emphasis on business purposes. "I kept the song just to take care of the business ends of the film. But I can guarantee you that the song will not hinder the pace of the film, and it will only take the narration forward," Lokesh revealed. He added that the song does not require Rajinikanth's presence, according to the story, but he is there for business-related reasons.
'Monica' has been trending on social media ever since its release earlier this year. The song has earned considerable attention for the sheer energy that Pooja and Soubin bring to it. It has vocals by composer Anirudh himself and Sublahshini alongside rap by Asal Kolaar and lyrics by Vishnu Edavan.
Coolie reunites Rajinikanth with Sathyaraj after their last collaboration on 1986's Mr Bharath. It marks the maiden collaboration between Rajinikanth and Shruti Haasan as well as the former and director Lokesh. Also starring Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, and Upendra, Coolie is slated for an August 14 release in theatres.
