At the trailer launch for his highly anticipated film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj, Rajinikanth shared a deeply personal anecdote from his days as a coolie. The story offered a glimpse into the actor's humble beginnings and the lessons that shaped him. "I got scolded many times in those days," he recounted before telling a story about a man approaching him with a request to load a piece of cargo into a vehicle. Rajinikanth revealed that the man paid him 2 rupee as a tip and that he recognised by the latter's voice that he was an erstwhile college mate, whom he had often mocked back in college. Rajinikanth went on to add that the man suggestively told him what kind of job he was doing, seemingly looking down upon the dignity of his job.
Rajinikanth went on to reveal that the incident made him become very emotional for the first time in his life.
Coolie is not only a celebration of Rajinikanth's 50-year cinematic journey but also promises a return to his vintage, mass-action style. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial is set to be a cinematic event, with a worldwide release scheduled for August 14th. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, and Aamir Khan. The music, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, has already made waves among the audience with its viral songs like 'Chikitu,' 'Monica,' and 'Power House'.
Further building anticipation around the film is the news that Coolie has received an "A" certificate from the Censor Board, a rare occurrence for a Rajinikanth film.
