With Parasakthi gearing up for release, actor Sivakarthikeyan offered rare insight into the film’s release planning and his interaction with Vijay at the audio launch, held recently. Speaking candidly, the actor walked the audience through the series of decisions that eventually led Parasakthi to lock its Pongal release alongside Vijay’s Jana Nayagan.
“We initially planned to release the film for Diwali,” Sivakarthikeyan said. “Later, Vijay sir’s film got locked for the Diwali slot. So we shifted our plans and started working towards a Pongal release.” However, the situation changed once again when Jana Nayagan was also moved to Pongal. “Suddenly, Vijay sir’s film Jana Nayagan was pushed to Pongal. I was immediately taken aback,” he admitted.
The actor revealed that his first reaction was to consider moving Parasakthi’s release. “I immediately called Akash bro and told him, ‘Vijay sir’s film is coming for Pongal. Shall we move our date slightly forward or backward?’” But practical constraints came into play. “He told me, ‘We’ve already informed all our investors that it’s a Pongal release. If we push it, it will have to go to summer, and elections will be happening then,’” Sivakarthikeyan recalled, adding that he initially agreed to stay put.
Despite that, the matter continued to weigh on him, prompting him to reach out to Vijay’s manager. “I called Jagdish sir and asked him, ‘What is this, bro? Jana Nayagan is coming for Pongal, and Parasakthi is also releasing then,’” he said. According to Sivakarthikeyan, the response was reassuring. “He told me, ‘What’s the problem? Two films can easily release for Pongal. You don’t have any problem, I’m the one with the problem, since this is Vijay sir’s last film. You speak to Vijay sir once.’”
Sharing what followed, Sivakarthikeyan said, “He went inside saying, ‘I’ll talk to him for five minutes and come.’ When he came back, he told me, ‘Sir said there’s absolutely no issue. Let both films release grandly for Pongal. Please convey my wishes to SK.’”
Concluding his speech on a celebratory note, Sivakarthikeyan urged fans to make the festive season special for both films. “One man has entertained all of us for 33 years,” he said. “So celebrate by watching Jana Nayagan on January 9. And then watch Parasakthi on January 10 and celebrate that as well.”
Helmed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi also stars Sreeleela, Ravi Mohan and Atharvaa in prominent roles.
