Ivy moves Delhi High Court against People Media Factory over The Raja Saab

Co-producer seeks Rs 218 crore refund and legal intervention as production delays and transparency concerns escalate

Cinema Express Desk

As per The Economic Times, on Wednesday, Ivy Entertainment has filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court against its co-producer, People Media Factory (PMF), and its directors over alleged contractual breaches related to The Raja Saab. The Delhi-based company is seeking a refund of its Rs 218 crore investment, claiming PMF failed to uphold key obligations.

According to the petition, PMF did not complete the film in a timely manner, withheld monthly production updates, failed to disclose fund utilisation, delayed the theatrical release repeatedly, and did not deliver agreed-upon materials. Ivy has asked the court to issue a permanent injunction preventing PMF and its associates from claiming any rights or exploiting the film without Ivy’s consent.

Documents show that the agreement for rights acquisition was signed in January 2023, followed by a theatrical rights agreement in March 2023, under which Ivy invested Rs 218 crore in worldwide theatrical and non-theatrical rights, backed by contractual guarantees and co-presenter credits. Ivy alleges material breaches led to termination of the agreements and is asking for the return of its investment along with 18% annual interest.

The petition names PMF directors Vishwa Prasad TG and Subramanya Vivekananda Kuchibhotla, along with post-production firms, including Deccan Dreams Animations LLP, Prasad Xtreme Digital Cinema Network, Qube Cinema Technologies and UFO Moviez, seeking their restraint from any further involvement without Ivy’s approval.

The Raja Saab, directed by Maruthi and starring Prabhas, is a high-budget horror comedy with a pan-Indian release planned in multiple languages. After facing multiple delays, the film is now targeting Sankranthi, 2026 theatrical release; Netflix has already secured the Hindi digital streaming rights.

With litigation underway, Ivy has indicated its readiness to complete the production and release the film itself to protect its investment. As legal proceedings unfold, the future path of The Raja Saab remains uncertain as its fate now entwined with judicial outcome as well as cinematic expectations.
