Teja Sajja who started promoting his upcoming large-scale action-adventure Mirai, interacted with Galatta Plus recently. And during the interview, he shared about the risk he and director Prasanth Varma took with their previous blockbuster, HanuMan.
Teja reminisced about his journey as a child artist, who had already worked across 50 odd Telugu films but he was not a well-recognised face in other parts of India. He stated that HanuMan was destiny and that the film made them take the risk of going pan-Indian. “When we initially announced as a pan-Indian film, lot of people, producers and directors, used to laugh at us. They said, ‘Who are you guys? You announced in all these languages, you are not even famous’ No complaints. Of course, anybody would have felt the same. But we (Him and Prasanth Varma) wanted to go all in,” he shared.
He also added that he takes his job as an actor too seriously. “We are young actors want to be big stars but I realised that mega stars are made over decades. I am way too serious about my work. Director VV Vinayak once told me, ‘For a person to get an opportunity to be a hero is the result of the virtue of many lives.’ and I think that stuck with me.”
Directed by Karthik Ghattamaneni, Mirai is billed as a pan-Indian high-concept action adventure, and is scheduled to pan-Indian release theatrically on September 5. The film will be available in both 2D and 3D formats across eight languages.
The teaser, unveiled earlier, sets the tone for a mythological-meets-modern superhero narrative, centred on a legendary weapon named Mirai that activates only when the time is right. Teja Sajja plays a reluctant hero chosen by the divine staff to confront an existential threat to humanity. Manchu Manoj plays the antagonist, The Black Sword, whose character is introduced through stylised visuals and intense action beats.
Drawing from Ashokan mythology, the film weaves elements such as a lost scripture, divine symbolism, and larger-than-life set pieces including an eagle attack and a speeding train battle. The final shot in the teaser shows the entry of an unnamed God, positioning Mirai as a follow-up to Teja Sajja’s previous superhero outing, HanuMan.
Produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad under the People Media Factory banner, Mirai also stars Shriya Saran, Jayaram, and Jagapathi Babu. Music is composed by Gowra Hari, with cinematography handled by the director himself.
