Keeping his film commitments aside, actor Jai made headlines recently for campaigning for Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which recently emerged as the single largest party in the assembly elections. The actor-turned-politician recently took oath as the state's Chief Minister, ending Tamil Nadu's five-decade-long Dravidian duopoly.
Jai's campaigns garnered both appreciation as well as criticism online. Speaking about the same, the actor, in a recent interview, admitted that he was involved in the election campaign purely for the love that he has for the actor. For the unversed, the duo had worked together on Bagavathi (2002), where Jai made his debut.
When probed on the consequences and the backlash he would have received if TVK had not won in the elections, Jai said, "I didn't think about all that. I was asked to campaign and I lent my full support to them. Vijay has come to do good to the society by becoming a politician and I wanted to give my hand for it. In fact, many had stopped me from campaigning. Due to the concern they have for me, they warned me that my career will be damaged."
He continued, "But I didn't want to stop as I had already started the works for it. I was confident on Vijay's victory, but did not have that in my mind. I was working only for the love that I have for him."
Interestingly, Jai plays a Vijay fan in his upcoming film Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai which hits theatres on May 15. Helmed by Babu Vijay, the film stars Meenakshi Govindharajan as the female lead.
The recently-released trailer of Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai shows Jai falling in love with Meenakshi's character and the two tying the knot. However, fate separates the two, with the latter abducted, which forces the former to get involved in a web of crime. Whether or not he finds his wife and they reunite seems to form the rest of the story. The trailer is complete with a lot of references to actor Vijay's films.
The film also stars Garuda Ram, Yogi Babu, Sathyan, Sriman, and Aditya Kathir.
