Ajith Kumar's racing docu-film now has a mighty title: Gladiators and the first motion poster of it sees the actor on the driver's seat, getting ready for an intense match and accelerating his car in full throttle. Directed by Vijay, the film is set to have music scored by GV Prakash Kumar.
With a tagline 'In Pursuit of Challenges', the racing docu-film is set to explore Ajith's endeavours on the track, how he along with his team overcame major challenges and secured podium finishes in leading championships. The film is presented by Ajith Kumar Sports Services LLC.
While exact details on what the film would be about is yet to revealed, the film's earlier glimpse began with Ajith's voiceover saying, "You see the winners, but you don't see the tears behind the stage." The actor was later seen running with an Indian flag in his hand after leaving his car. He greeted his fans who had gathered to watch him on the racing track.
From there, the video showed many glimpses of his life on the arena - from intense preparation in the dressing room, adrenaline-filled laps around the track to even his accidents. He is seen saying, "In films, you have retakes, but in racing you don't. One mistake could wreck your car and you would lose your life. You could also end up hurting other people. It's hard for me as well as for my family."
Gladiators is also expected to see the actor revealing some of his never-before-seen emotional side where he opens up on some deeply personal moments in his life.
Speaking about the film and his experience shooting it, director Vijay had earlier said, "All of us know Ajith as a superstar, but seeing him work hard for his passion is very surprising. After coming here, my respect for him as well as for the sports has increased tremendously. He would surely be looked at as a motorsports icon in India."
The team originally had plans to release this film in theatres on May 1 on the occasion of the actor's birthday, but it looks it has been delayed with a confirmed date yet to be revealed by the makers.
According to reports, the film is expected to be around 90 minutes long and would seek to inspire scores of youngsters to pursue their dreams. The move, sources had said, was also an attempt to popularise motorsport, which many still consider a rich man's sport in the country.
Further, the docu film will be presented in theatres as two halves with each half comprising of 45 minutes. Besides, the makers of the docu-film are also in talks with major OTT platforms to release Gladiators on OTT with an extended cut.
On the big screen, Ajith Kumar was last seen in Adhik Ravichandran's Good Bad Ugly and is set to reunite with him for AK64 which is yet to go on floors.
