Suriya has been making headlines ever since the release of his 45th film, Karuppu. More recently, there have been back-to-back updates from his upcoming films, namely Vishwanath & Sons and Suriya 47. On Monday, the actor's 48th was also announced, revealing his reunion with his Jai Bhim director TJ Gnanavel.
Amidst all this news, it seems like Suriya has completed filming for his 47th, helmed by Jithu Madhavan. While it is not officially announced yet, a video of the Aavesham director calling out "cut" and "pack up", along with a clapboard that reads "Suriya 47 Pack Up" dated June 27, are now virally shared on social media. With Suriya 48 commencing with a pooja ceremony on Monday, the reports seem to be true, although official confirmation is awaited.
Meanwhile, speculations are already rife about the release date for Suriya 47. As per many reports, the film may choose a festive release, specifically, Diwali. If the reports are to be believed, the film will be scheduled for release on November 5 or 6, just ahead of Diwali on November 8. Yet again, the release date has not been made official by the makers.
Suriya's Karuppu hit theatres in May this year, a year after his previous outing, Retro. With Vishwanath & Sons scheduled for August 14, if Suriya 47 is also scheduled for Diwali, it would mean that Suriya would have three film releases in 2026. If it happens, this phenomenon repeats in Suriya's career 20 years later. The last time he had three film releases, in which he played the lead role, was in 2005, with Maayavi, Ghajini, and Aaru. Following this, he has only had a maximum of two releases per year, with some years having more but only his cameo appearances.
Suriya 47 also stars Nazriya Nazim and Naslen in lead roles and Anandraj and John Vijay in supporting roles. It marks Jithu Madhavan's third directorial after Romancham and Aavesham and his first Tamil film. Suriya is all set to be seen as a cop in the upcoming film. Backed by Zhagaram Studios, the film will have music composed by Sushin Shyam.
Vishwanath & Sons, helmed by Venky Atluri, also stars Mamitha Baiju as the female lead and Raveena Tandon in a key role. Backed by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film will feature compositions and a score by GV Prakash. Suriya 48, produced by Hombale Films, stars Kayadu Lohar as the female lead and will have music by Sai Abhyankkar.
