Hours after Jyotika heaped praise on director Chidambaram's latest film Balan: The Boy, Suriya has now shared his views on the thriller, calling it "another gem from the Malayalam industry". He further appreciated the Manjummel Boys filmmaker as well as the lead actors Adhisheshan and Farzana Palathingal.
In his latest Instagram post, Suriya said he was "still processing" Balan while writing the post. "After Manjummel Boys, the choice to do a film like this, says everything about what Chidambaram and his team wanted to give us. This film is another gem from the Malayalam industry. Huge respect to the director for going with this unique story by Jithu Madhavan," he said.
For the unversed, Balan has been scripted by Jithu Madhavan, the director of Suriya's upcoming untitled Suriya 47 which also stars Nazriya and Naslen in lead roles.
Suriya also said the film's highlight was having debutant actors in the lead. "Farzana Palathingal, the two boys Adhiseshan KR & Muhammed Zinan with a brilliant Tovino Thomas as Abbas and pulling off such an unpredictable film," he added, noting how the movie "overwhelmed" him. Extending his congratulations, Suriya said that he felt the need to "brush up on his own skills" upon witnessing the newcomers' efficient acting skills.
Jyotika too shared his words of appreciation for Balan prior to Suriya, and said it was a "supremely crafted film by Chidambaram and an intriguing and constantly surprising screenplay by Jithu Madhavan."
Balan: The Boy follows a woman and her son, who are bound by sheer love, safeguarded by lies, and set apart by fate. The two must deal with the secrets about their past lives in an intense quest for truth and redemption. It stars Adhisheshan as the titular boy and Farzana Palathingal as his mother. The cast also includes Muhammed Zinaan, Dolly June, Jean Paul Lal, Beena Antony, Tovino Thomas, Premalu fame filmmaker Girish AD, and so on.
Balan marks the third film in Chidambaram's career. He made his directorial debut with 2021's Jan E Man and followed it up Manjummel Boys, which went on to become a massive hit at the box office. With over Rs 11 crore in collections across India and over Rs 20 crore worldwide, Balan is on course to mark a hat-trick of success for Chidambaram.
