Anticipation is quite high for Arasan, Silambarasan's upcoming film with director Vetri Maaran, ever since the filmmaker revealed that it was a part of the Vada Chennai universe. Recently, the film's producer, Kalaipuli S Thanu, dropped some updates about the film while also clarifying some news as just rumours.

When asked about when the next schedule of Arasan is set to commence, Thanu said to Galatta, "Silambarasan returned back to India only three days ago. He spoke to Vetri Maaran upon his return, and they're set to start the next schedule in March."

Recently, a few speculations suggested that Vijay Sethupathi is no longer associated with the project. Thanu clarified that the news was only a rumour. "There is no truth to the rumour that Vijay Sethupathi left the film. The news should either come from him, the director, or me, the producer," he asserted.

Further, Thanu also assured that actor Silambarasan has been sincere during the film's shoot, as opposed to old reports about the actor turning up late to the set. "Silambarasan turns up to shoot on time. Even Vetri Maaran sir had previously said that he sits and watches his co-artists perform when he doesn't have a shot," he said, adding, "The scenes between Vijay Sethupathi and Simbu are going to be a blast in theatres."

Besides Silambarasan and Vijay Sethupathi, the film also stars Andrea Jeremiah and Samuthirakani, reprising their roles as Chandra and Guna from Vada Chennai, respectively. Heart Beat and Tourist Family fame Yogalakshmi is also part of the much-anticipated film.

Arasan's screenplay is an iteration of the one the filmmaker had written for Vada Chennai when Silambarasan was in line to star in it. However, Dhanush soon came on board for Vada Chennai. The makers describe it as “an untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai.” According to the first promo released a few weeks ago, the film is set to feature Silambarasan in two avatars: as a youngster and as an aged man.

The cast is also set to reportedly feature Kishore reprising his role, along with newcomers Manikandan and Nelson. However, this still remains unconfirmed. Although they exist in the same universe, Dhanush's character Anbu is not a part of Arasan.

Kalaipuli S Thanu is producing the film under his V Creations banner. It brings composer-singer Anirudh together with Silambarasan and director Vetri Maaran for the first time. The makers are yet to reveal further details about the film, including its plot, the rest of the cast, and the technical crew.
