As the audio launch event of Dhanush's upcoming film Idli Kadai is underway, production company Vels Film International's Ishari K Ganesh spoke about Vada Chennai 2.

In his speech, Ishari K Ganesh said that the announcement of the sequel to the 2018 gangster drama will be coming soon. This development comes close on the heels of the announcement of STR 49, starring Silambarasan TR and directed by Vetri Maaran, which was made in the world of Vada Chennai.

A few months ago, Vels Film International announced a lineup of 10 films that the banner will be producing in the coming years. Accordingly the banner will be collaborating with Sundar C, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Vetri Maaran, Jude Anthony Joseph, Mari Selvaraj, Arunraja Kamaraj, Ganesh K Babu, and Chella Ayyavu. It was announced that the Vetri Maaran film will feature Dhanush, but it remained unclear whether it will be an original project or a continuation of Vada Chennai. But with Ishari Ganesh's speech, it is clear that their collaboration will be on Vada Chennai 2.

Vada Chennai (2018) is an intense crime drama that features the power tussle between gangs in North Chennai. The film features Guna (Samuthirakani) and Senthil (Kishore) turning against their gang leader, Rajan (Ameer), as he hinders the two henchmen's thirst for power and money. In the turn of events, Guna and Senthil turn against each other, and their struggle pulls in a talented carrom board player, Anbu (Dhanush), inadvertently. Anbu faces the challenge of overcoming the greedy gangsters while also following in the footsteps of Rajan, who aimed to protect the fishermen's hamlet from being usurped by politicians and businessmen. This is how Vada Chennai concludes, setting the stage for the highly anticipated sequel.

Idli Kadai, meanwhile, marks Dhanush's fourth directorial after Paa Pandi, Raayan, and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK). The film also stars Shalini Pandey, Nithya Menen, Samuthirakani, Raj Kiran, Sathyaraj, Parthiban, and Arun Vijay, amongst others.

The film, produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films and Aakash Baskaran's Dawn Pictures, will release in theatres on October 1.
