Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is currently basking in the success of his recent release DC, has found himself at the centre of yet another controversy, this time in political circles. The popular filmmaker's name has been doing the rounds on social media following reports that he had expressed an interest in entering politics and had sought an MLA seat in Tamil Nadu.
Discussions regarding the same emerged after Minister N Anand hinted at a "popular director" who had directed Vijay, meeting the actor-turned-politician and requesting an opportunity to contest the upcoming election from a particular constituency.
Speaking at the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly's discussion on the demands for grants held on Thursday, Anand said the person made the request to Vijay around one-and-a-half years ago. Speaking about the incident, Anand also recalled Vijay's response to him. "He said, 'Dear friend, don't take it to your heart, but there is a district secretary who has been working for the party in that constituency for many years. I cannot give you that constituency by leaving him out'."
While Anand did not reveal the director’s name, based on the details he shared, netizens on social media deduced that he said person may be Lokesh Kanagaraj.
Speaking about the incident, popular YouTube channel Valaipechu revealed that Lokesh Kanagaraj himself clarified that he is not the director referred to in the Assembly. According to the channel, when asked whether he was the filmmaker in question, Lokesh reportedly responded, "Sir, why would I even go and ask for something like that?"
For the unversed, Lokesh Kanagaraj has worked with Vijay in two major box-office hit action films: Master (2021) and Leo (2023). The director recently met Vijay after he took oath as the Chief Minister. He recently made his acting debut with Arun Matheswaran's DC. The action thriller, also starring Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, has been garnering rave reviews from audiences and critics, with the film grossing Rs 100 crore at the global box office.
