Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has opened advance bookings in India, and Bengaluru has wasted little time showing its appetite for the film. The Geetu Mohandas directorial is seeing more than 25,000 tickets being sold every hour on BookMyShow, with several shows already filling up across the city.
The scale of the response is significant considering bookings have only just opened. BookMyShow’s Bengaluru listing currently shows Toxic across multiple formats, including 2D, EPIQ, IMAX 2D, 4DX and Dolby Cinema. The platform is also recording more than 1.1 million people interested in the film, although that figure refers to interest and should not be confused with actual ticket sales.
Bengaluru is also seeing a strong rush for the early morning shows. Several screenings scheduled from 6 am are filling quickly, adding to the demand for the film’s opening day. The premium morning shows come at a higher price, with Gold Class tickets in some Bengaluru multiplexes priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,700. Regular multiplex tickets are largely in the Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 range, while single-screen theatres are selling tickets for around Rs 400 to Rs 500.
The booking picture, however, is still incomplete across the South. Advance theatre bookings are yet to open in Hyderabad, Chennai and Kochi. That means the current sales are largely driven by markets where bookings have gone live, and the numbers could move sharply once the remaining major centres open their counters.
Outside Bengaluru, tickets in Mumbai and Delhi are currently available in the Rs 800 to Rs 900 range, depending on the theatre and format.
Toxic is scheduled to release worldwide on August 26 in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English. With five days still left before release, Bengaluru’s early booking trend gives Yash’s return to the big screen a strong start, while the opening of bookings in Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu and Kerala will provide a broader picture of the film’s advance demand.
