It is well known that Dhanush's upcoming film Kara, directed by Por Thozhil-fame Vignesh Raja, is all set for release in theatres on April 30. The film has him playing Karasaami aka Kara, a robber during the Gulf War of 1991 which leads to a fuel crises in Tamil Nadu, forcing him to battle for his sustenance.
Interestingly, actor Master Mahendran also has a film with a near-identical title. Titled Karaa, the film is written and directed by Avatar and is billed as ‘India’s biggest crocodile movie’. After a long delay, it is now set to release in theatres on May 15.
With both films carrying almost identical titles and releasing within weeks of each other, the similarity has sparked confusion among audiences on social media.
Kara features Mamitha Baiju as Selli, Jayaram as Muthu Selvan, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu as Bharathan, and Karunaas as Kasi Maayan, Sreeja Ravi as Dhanam, and Prithvi Pandiarajan as Murugesan. National Award winning actor, MS Bhaskar is also part of the film. Alfred Prakash has written for the film along with director Vignesh.
The cast of Mahendran's Karaa also stars Sahiba Bhasin, Jeeva Thangavel, Kimaya, Mottey Rajendran, Salem Vengai K. Aiyanar, Robo Ganesan, Premnath, Gul Renjith, Virali, Guna Jee, Varghese Mathew, Yamini Joshi, Vijay Prasad. Karaa follows a series of bizarre and comical crime incidents that spiral into chaos, eventually taking a dark and unexpected turn when a group of characters find themselves trapped in floodwaters infested with crocodiles, leading to a deadly encounter with the semiaquatic predators.
