Actor Karthi is currently gearing up for the release of his long-awaited action comedy film Vaa Vaathiyaar. During the pre-release event of the film, he shared details of his character, working in Nalan Kumarasamy's direction and the challenges of emulating late CM-actor MG Ramachandran.

Expressing his gratitude to fans who had assembled at the event, Karthi shared, "There is an unconditional bond between a fan and the 'Thalaivar' (MGR). That forms the core emotion of Vaa Vaathiyaar. In the same way, you are also showering us with unconditional love without any expectations. The fact that you feel happy about me talking about you is an example of that. No amount of money can buy that love. I have acted in this film for that love."

Crediting Nalan Kumarasamy as the "OG of the black comedy genre," Karthi said, “‘90s kids would know who Nalan is and what he’s capable of.' We’re going to see the OG Nalan return to his home turf once again. I often wonder how the Telugu industry consistently mounts big-budget films and how the Malayalam industry delivers movies with such unique stories. What, then, is the identity of Tamil cinema? What are we doing differently? If we continue to make the same familiar stories out of fear of the unknown, it won’t lead to anything meaningful. That’s why directors like Nalan are so important to the industry. They need to keep making films."

During the same speech, Karthi shared the challenges he faced while working on the film. "I thought I can kidnap children or politicians in this film, but Nalan brought me Vaa Vaathiyaar. It was a huge challenge, but I was hesitant and doubtful if I could pull it off, but I understood that we have to face our fears to enter the next stage. No matter how many times you succeed, this world will continue to speak about your failures. So you have to push yourself to try new things."

He added, "I did this film only because I knew I could count on Nalan. Working on Vaa Vaathiyaar is like walking on a sword. There are only two scenarios: Either you can win or lose terribly that people will throw you away. This is a risky subject in that way for an actor, but as a movie, it is a fun and entertaining film. Our film is a tribute to the classic Indian masala films."

The film, which hits theatres on December 12, stars Krithi Shetty as the female lead. The action-comedy entertainer marks the first collaboration between Karthi and director Nalan Kumarasamy. Vaa Vaathiyaar also stars Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, Anandaraj, Karunakaran, GM Sundar, Shilpa Manjunath, and Ramesh Thilak in pivotal roles.
