Rahul Ravindran in talks with Karthi for a film

Fresh from the appreciation he received for The Girlfriend, starring Rashmika Mandanna, director Rahul Ravindran has his eyes set on a new project. The other day, Rahul said at an event before the release of Karthi's Annagaru Vostaru (Vaa Vaathiyaar in Tamil) that he is in discussion with a producer for a film starring the actor. The filmmaker was responding to a hypothetical question about what story he would like to have for a film with Karthi if they do a film. In his response, he said that he already has a project in mind with Karthi and that they have even talked to a producer about it. "Maybe after one or two years, I will go after Karthi," the filmmaker quipped, acknowledging the actor's busy schedule ahead. Rahul added that he likes Karthi's comic timing and attitude and that he would like to explore a script integrating both aspects.

Karthi was also asked about the project, but he said that he only came to know about through Rahul at that event.

Karthi is waiting for the December 12 release of Vaa Vaathiyaar, co-starring Krithi Shetty and directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. He is also reuniting with his Sardar director PS Mithran for a sequel to the 2022 film. He also has an action-packed drama titled Marshal with director Tamizh, known for his work on 2022's Taanakkaran. He is expected to come back for a sequel to Kaithi.

Karthi was last seen in cameo roles in his brother Suriya's film Kanguva and the Nani starrer HIT: The Third Case. His last full-length role came in C Prem Kumar's Meiyazhagan.

There is also speculation about Karthi joining forces with director Sundar C for a film. The project is yet to receive an official confirmation, but Valai Pechu claimed that Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth are teaming up for a new film, the confirmation of which is likely to cause a delay in the making of Kaithi 2, in which case Karthi might get the chance to star in a Sundar C directorial.
