Marvel Studios may have kept the new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday exclusive to attendees inside Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, but detailed descriptions shared by those present and widely circulated across social media have given fans a glimpse of what awaits the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest crossover yet.
The following details are based on descriptions published by entertainment outlets and accounts that attended the Hall H presentation, as Marvel has not officially released the footage online.
According to these descriptions, the trailer opens with Robert Downey Jr's Victor Von Doom seated on a throne while Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm narrates his tragic transformation. She reportedly says that Victor was once "the smartest guy in the room" but has since become a broken man after losing everything he cared about. The dialogue also hints that Doom shares a complicated history with Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and the rest of the Fantastic Four long before the events of the film.
The footage is said to cut between several Marvel heroes, offering quick glimpses of Thor, Black Panther, Shang-Chi, Loki, Captain America, Cyclops, Magneto, Gambit and other familiar faces. One sequence reportedly shows a devastated New York City lying in ruins, prompting Reed Richards to question whether Doom is responsible for the destruction.
Doctor Doom's threat appears to become clear when he declares, "All of you have lived stolen lives." As described by those who watched the trailer, Thor confronts the villain only for Doom to effortlessly stop Mjolnir before overpowering the God of Thunder with magic. The trailer reportedly ends with Doom summoning an army of Sentinels, the mutant-hunting robots long associated with the X-Men franchise, setting the stage for a battle involving the Avengers, Fantastic Four and the X-Men.
The Hall H preview also appears to reinforce Marvel's ambitious crossover plans. Avengers: Doomsday brings together multiple corners of the MCU, including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts and several legacy X-Men characters from Fox's film universe.
The cast is led by Downey Jr. in his surprise new role as Doctor Doom, alongside returning MCU stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd and Simu Liu. The Fantastic Four team, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, will also play key roles, while Thunderbolts members Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen and Lewis Pullman are set to join the ensemble.
