Udta Teer, the Ayushmann Khurrana-Sara Ali Khan starrer spy comedy that released in theatres on October 23, opened to somewhat decent figures at the box office. Directed by Akash Kaushik, the spy-comedy was one of the many Hindi theatrical releases this week, and the film with strongest chances at box office success.
According to Sacnilk, Udta Teer collected Rs 4.10 crores nett on Friday, running across nearly 6600 shows. While these figures are not particularly strong in themselves, it must be noted that 2026 has not been a great year in particular for non-franchise comedies. With its modest opening, Udta Teer still managed to surpassed the collections of other comedies this year like Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe, Yami Gautam starrer Nayyi Navelli, and Ayushmann's own Pati Patni aur Woh Do.
The film performed considerably better in Mumbai than Delhi-NCR, among key markets. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 50 crores, Udta Teer must register a strong jump over the weekend. It could also help that there are no major releases next week either. Udta Teer, with its mixed to positive reviews, still stands a chance hence.
A joint collaboration between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, the film told the story of a proficient Pakistani spy (Ayushmann) who, after having entered India to infiltrate its security systems, loses his memory after a mission and develops nationalistic feelings towards India.
The spy-comedy has a massive ensemble cast, with actors like Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and the late Mukul Dev onboard.
In our review for the film, we noted, “It seemed like the film had to toe the line probably to not get stuck at the censors. The whole nationalistic change of vibe feels forced and funny when it is actually meant to be serious. The tonal shift also seems like a betrayal since the movie starts off as being frivolous.”
