Barely a few hours following the unveiling of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, theories about the upcoming film featuring Dr Doom as the ultimate supervillain have already started virally making the rounds on social media. While videos have started analysing why the new Avengers are all reuniting, there's one key detail from the trailer that most missed.
The last time all the Avengers united was for Avengers: Endgame, to defeat Thanos and restore the other half of humanity. It took them two films, namely Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, for them to bring the antagonist to an end. Ever since Doomsday was announced, a recurring question was whether Dr Doom is stronger than Thanos.
Clearly, given that the Avengers are even coming together, it proves that Dr Doom is indeed mightier than Thanos. But a scene from the trailer puts the doubts to rest, once and for all. Before we come to the portion in the Doomsday trailer, it is important to travel back to Infinity War, where Thor, along with Groot, Rocket and Eitri, gives birth to Stormbreaker.
We have seen the axe-like weapon, similar to the Mjolnir, but more powerful with the ability to summon the bifrost, enabling Thor to travel the nine realms as he wishes. The film also establishes that the weapon is capable of overpowering the six Infinity Stones, as proved by Thor's solo attempt. at killing Thanos, even when he has all six stones in Infinity War.
Now, coming to the glimpse in the Doomsday trailer, we see Chris Hemsworth's Thor coming face-to-face with Robert Downey Jr's Dr Victor Van Doom, confidently wielding his ever-powerful Stormbreaker. However, much to our surprise, Dr Doom overpowers the stormbreaker without breaking a sweat, making it amply clear that he is a much bigger supervillain than Thanos.
Helmed by the Russo brothers, Avengers: Doomsday brings together the Wakandans, Talokians, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Thor, Hulk and Captain America from the original Avengers. The film is gearing up to open in theatres on December 18.
