Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become India's biggest Hollywood blockbuster after soaring past the Rs 500 crore milestone in India in just 12 days of its release. Since its theatrical debut on July 30, the Tom Holland-headlined superhero movie has knocked every major box office landmark back-to-back, entering the Rs 100 crore club in two days, Rs 200 crore mark in three days and Rs 400 crore within eight days. Now, Brand New Day has amassed over Rs 500 crore throughout India after adding almost Rs 100 crore in its second weekend.
This mega massive stride was possible, thanks to growing audience appreciation as well as glorious reviews from critics. Worldwide, Brand New Day has broken several records and has raced to over $1 billion, now standing at $1.67 billion. In this overseas revenue alone amounts to $1 billion with US markets earning $655 million. At this rate, the film is looking at a long run at the box office, be it India or overseas, with $2 billion within reach. In India, the film has been enjoying a hit run across languages in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
Similarly, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which also stars Tom Holland in a key role, has also achieved the $1 billion mark and is steadily marching ahead with packed halls across the world.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins on the heels of the previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casting a spell over the world, to make everyone forget Peter Parker (Tom Holland), in order to protect his identity as Spider-Man. This includes his close friends MJ and Ned (Zendaya and Jacob Batalon). Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is his second MCU project after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The cast also features Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo.
