Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu recently engaged in a question and answer session with X users ahead of the release of his show The Copenhagen Test. One of the users asked Liu about his preferred options to direct a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings if the original's director, Destin Daniel Cretton, does not return for it. The actor gave three prospective options: Lee Isaac Chung, known for the Academy Award nominated film Minari, the filmmaker duo Daniels, known for the Oscar Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All at Once, and the Oscar winning film Nomadland's Chloe Zhao.
Despite Simu Liu's revelation, there is still some uncertainty over the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel. Marvel Studios announced it four years ago, but there have not been any updates about it in the recent years. The sequel is not part of the list of Marvel films to release in 2026 in theatres, which is disappointing for fans because Shang-Chi is one of MCU's best-known heroes since 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
Speaking of which, Liu is set to reprise his Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings role in next year's Avengers: Doomsday.
