There's no stopping Spider-Man...or his fans. The fourth Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke all previously calculated predictions and has ascended past $927 million worldwide in its opening weekend. It is now the second-biggest opening ever for a film after Avengers: Endgame which earned a mammoth $1.22 billion. Avengers: Infinity War reported $640.5 million.
This is a mega massive swing for the Spider-Man franchise as the latest film's collections are almost four times over the estimated $225 million production budget. There is no doubt that the film will take over the $1 billion mark in a day or two and when it does, it will overthrow Toy Story 5 at the box office. Brand New Day has also set the record of registering second-best opening in North America, with $335 million.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins on the heels of the previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casting a spell over the world, to make everyone forget Peter Parker (Tom Holland), in order to protect his identity as Spider-Man. This includes his close friends MJ and Ned (Zendaya and Jacob Batalon). Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is his second MCU project after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The cast also features Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo.
Brand New Day's earnings are indicative of a strong hold on Marvel movies through the years and is a litmus test for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday release in December.
The film comfortably surpassed the worldwide opening of Spider-Man: No Way Home ($600.5 million), which previously ranked among the biggest global debuts of all time. It also marks the biggest opening weekend for Sony Pictures, director Daniel Destin Cretton, and Zendaya.
Internationally, the film collected an impressive $572 million across 66 overseas markets and approximately 73,500 screens, reflecting strong audience turnout worldwide. The film also set new opening-day records in several markets, including France with $26.6 million and India with $31.8 million, where it became the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood film and the sixth-largest opening in Indian box office history. Indian audiences have been welcoming the film with open arms as it has already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark. It is also going strong across languages besides English, registering maximum footfall in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
