Samantha's latest film Maa Inti Bangaram is off to a great start, thanks to the anticipation built ahead of the release through teasers, trailers and promotions. Directed by BV Nandini Reddy, the actioner has minted over Rs 13 crore on its opening day, a promising number, which is only expected to climb high during the weekend.
On Friday, Maa Inti Bangaram collected a net of Rs 5.35 crore across 2,658 shows. This brings total India gross collections to Rs 6.20 crore. Worldwide, the film has grossed Rs 13.15 crore. Expressing happiness on the numbers, Samantha said, "So very glad to see the day when audiences embrace a film irrespective of whether it is male-led or female-led. And it’s beautiful to see people show up wholeheartedly."
But the numbers are way behind Samantha's previous feature Kushi, also starring Vijay Devarakonda in the lead, which earned Rs 15.25 crore across India on its first day. However, it is much higher than Samantha's previous production Subham which only earned over Rs 60 lakh on day 1.
Besides Samantha, Maa Inti Bangaram also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Diganth Manchale, and Gauthami in key roles.
The film follows Swarna (Samantha), a newlywed who tries to fit into her husband’s traditional rural family. While pretending to be a typical housewife, she secretly hides a violent past as an assassin. When a ruthless criminal from her former life resurfaces, she must protect the family that previously doubted her.
An excerpt from our CE review of the film read, "The film completely revolves around Samantha’s character Swarna/Jhansi, and she carries it from the beginning to the end. The combination of Nandini Reddy and Samantha works extremely well as they understand each other from their previous collaborations. Nandini knows how to present Samantha, and the actress delivers exactly what the role demands. For the first time, Samantha has explored a full action backdrop, and she handles it with confidence. It feels fresh for audiences watching her in this kind of role."
The film is backed by Samantha under Tralala Moving Pictures. Her husband Raj Nidimoru is co-producing the film alongside Himank Duvvuru. It has music by Santhosh Narayanan.
