With two days to go for the release of Thudakkam, director Jude Anthany Joseph shared a heartfelt note on social media mentioning his film's lead actor Vismaya Mohanlal and her mother Suchitra. Sharing pictures featuring himself, Vismaya and Suchitra, the director wrote, "They may be mother and daughter to the world, but to me, they’ll always be my elder sister and younger sister."
Jude also revealed that Suchitra Mohanlal presented him with a wristwatch in appreciation of the film. "The second picture is a beautiful gift from Suchi Chechi after watching Thudakkam—a gesture I’ll treasure for a lifetime. Thank you, dear Chechi, for your love, encouragement, and this unforgettable memory," Jude shared.
Thudakkam marks his return to direction after his 2023 disaster film/survival thriller, 2018, starring Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, and Tanvi Ram, among others.
The upcoming film marks the acting debuts of Mohanlal's daughter, Vismaya, and producer Antony Perumbavoor's son Ashish Joe Antony. The film also stars Mohanlal in what is reportedly an extended cameo. Judging by the trailer, Sai Kumar plays the onscreen father of Vismaya's character in the film. The cast also includes Bobby Kurian, Manoj K Jayan, Ganesh kumar, Aswin, Essa, Kottayam Ramesh, Jaya Kurup, and Jaffar Idukki, among others.
Antony Perumbavoor's production banner Aashirvad Cinemas dropped a trailer for the film on Monday that hints at a family drama with elements of a home invasion thriller. The trailer ends with a brief look at Mohanlal's character in the film. In a recent interview with CE, Thudakkam co-writer Akhil Krishna revealed that the core of the film is the relationship between a father and his daughter.
Slated for an August 07 release, the film has been written by Linish Nellikkal, Akhil Krishna, and Jude Anthany Joseph.
