As actor Samantha gears up for the release of her upcoming Telugu film Maa Inti Bangaram, which will also release in Tamil as Engal Thangam, she expressed her desire to return to Tamil cinema in a bigger way.

Speaking at the Chennai press meet for the film, Samantha said, “I wish that I did more films in Tamil. Definitely, I have the hunger to do good Tamil films. So this is my request to directors: give me good roles.”

The actor also reflected on the continued support she receives from Tamil audiences despite not having many recent releases in the language. “Whenever I come to Chennai, I always meet fans at the airport, and I feel so grateful. So many years have passed, and though there haven’t been many releases, the support is still there. I’m grateful for that, and I hope this film makes them proud,” she said.

When asked if audiences can expect to see her in more Tamil films, Samantha responded that she is actively looking for opportunities. She added that she is open to a variety of genres and not limited to action films.

“Not just action; of course not only action. In this film too, it’s not just action; there’s so much more — family, comedy, drama, emotions. Action is just a small part of it,” she said.

Samantha has had a strong association with Tamil cinema through films such as Neethaane En Ponvasantham, Theri, 24, Mersal, Super Deluxe and Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal.

Directed by Nandini Reddy, Maa Inti Bangaram marks Samantha’s return to Telugu cinema in a lead role. She is also backing the project under her banner, Tralala Moving Pictures, with Raj Nidimoru and Himank Duvvuru serving as co-producers. The cast also includes Diganth Manchale, Gulshan Devaiah and Gautami. The film, originally slated for a May 15 release, will now hit screens on June 19.
