Director-actor RJ Balaji's film Karuppu, starring Suriya in the titular role, has become a massive success at the box office. It has earned more than 300 crore from theatres worldwide, thus becoming the highest-grossing film in Suriya's career. Earlier this Saturday, Balaji spoke about the commercial performance of the film, his experience interacting with Suriya, and more at an event celebrating the film's success.
In a conversation with Cineulagam earlier this Sunday, Balaji was asked about the possibility of a Karuppu sequel. The filmmaker said that he is still enjoying the commercial success of his film. "Why should I come out of its success? I should not do it," the director said before saying that he has worked on the film for over 950 days to experience this level of achievement.
The filmmaker added that he is feeling happy even today because he is enjoying the film's success. He compared it to winning a race. "What is the point of winning a race if you are only going to lift the trophy and go back home? We have to celebrate it," he revealed. He expressed his gratitude to the audience, God, and his team for the success of the film. "They worked like military-level discipline for two years. Now, I want to celebrate it with my team and crew," the director said.
The actor-director also said that he would proceed to his next project when he starts to feel that he has celebrated Karuppu's success too much. "Until then, I will be in this celebratory mood," he said.
He also expressed his desire to collaborate with Suriya yet again, without revealing the specifics of the project. At the same time, he did not dismiss the possibility of Karuppu 2, saying that he will consider it in the future.
