Director Sudha Kongara revealed recently that she has been facing slander and defamatory comments in relation to the long-delayed censor certification process for her film Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela, and Atharvaa. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, the filmmaker said that she is experiencing "slander and defamation of the worst kind" from netizens whose true identity is hidden behind fake accounts. The filmmaker said that she knows the source of these comments while reading out one such message, suggesting that it is from a Vijay fan. However, netizens have since been pushing back against the filmmaker's comments on social media. According to them, it is not fair to blame the whole fanbase of an actor for the odd bad comments from unknown users claiming to be his fans.
According to some of Sudha Kongara's critics, the filmmaker's comments are a tactic to detract people's attention from 'the actual issue' at hand: the quality of the film or the lack of it. Parasakthi opened to mixed reviews from critics. The film has grossed 54 crore from theatres worldwide, according to data from industry tracker Sacnilk. However, it has also been receiving some negativity, especially for the alleged lack of quality in its storytelling.
While Parasakthi has hit theatres, Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan is caught in the crosshairs of censorship and other legal formalities. At least, some amount of agitation against Sudha's film stems from the delayed nature of the censorship process for the Vijay starrer. Earlier, Sudha also said that the Censor Board is only doing its job while responding to questions about the number of cuts in her film.
