KVN Productions, the banner backing Vijay's Jana Nayagan is continuing its pursuit to get the film its CBFC certificate. On Monday, producer Venkat K Narayana has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the interim order passed by the Madras HC on January 9 that stayed the single judge's order made by Justice PT Asha which granted U/A 16+ certificate for Vijay's upcoming action film.

A Special Leave Petition has been filed by the production house on Monday morning against the order heard by the the Chief Justice of Madras HC. While the next hearing on the writ appeal is scheduled for January 20, the case is likely to speed up if the SC hears it in the upcoming days.

Jana Nayagan, which has been facing censor woes since December 2025, has been pushed from its initial release of January 9. Since then, many celebrities including actors and directors like SilambarasanRavi Mohan, Jiiva, and Karthik Subbaraj, among others extended their solidarity with the film's team and to Vijay. Troubles for the film began when

CBFC Chairperson decided to send the film to the revising committee on January 6 after the examining committee of CBFC Chennai agreed to give U/A 16+ certification for the film. Later, KVN Productions moved to Chennai HC to challenge CBFC's decision. on January 9, a single bench of the HC led by Justice PT Asha directed the CBFC to grant the U/A 16+ censor certificate for Vijay's swansong, the board filed an urgent appeal to the division bench led by the Chief Justice of Madras HC, against Justice PT Asha’s order.

At the hearing on Friday, the representatives of the CBFC argued that after the judgement of Justice PT Asha, they were not given time to file a counter affidavit. They also argued that Justice PT Asha had quashed the order of the Chairman of the CBFC, even though the appeal wasn't filed for that reason. The Chief Justice also questioned the move of the producer to create a false sense of urgency by announcing a release date before the issuance of certification and stayed the single bench's decision.

On Saturday, Producer Venkat K Narayana issued an official video statement, detailing the sequence of events and apologising to audiences and stakeholders for the unexpected delay. "This has been an extremely emotional and difficult moment for everyone who has poured their heart, soul, and years of hard work into this film. Above all, we firmly believe that Thalapathy Vijay sir deserves the farewell that he has earned through decades of love from his fans and respect from the industry," he said.
