Many public figures have spoken out against the Censor Board following the postponement in the release of Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay and directed by H Vinoth. The postponement comes due to censorship hassles associated with the film. Speaking about the issue, actor and BJP member R Sarathkumar said that the act of the Censor Board preventing a film's release is not new, and he cited the delay in the release of multiple films, including his own Adangathe. Saying that the board is just doing their job, the actor-politician opined that if the organisation is recommending cuts to a film, it means that something is not right with the film in question and not the board. "Not everything is political," the actor told reporters before adding that the board comprises members from the film industry across India and not politicians.
He also said that the board suggested 120 cuts to Adangathe and that it has not had its release for nearly four years now. According to the actor, the board recommends cuts to films after considering the their general societal impact. He also questioned the lack of discourse over the delay in the release of Adangathe.
At the same time, the actor said that he also would like to see Jana Nayagan releasing in theatres, just like everyone else. "It is very difficult to make a film," he said before pointing out that the rules apply to every film. The actor-politician also asked the media to talk about the issues that affect the public rather than the release of a film. "Ours is a democratic country. Everyone here knows whether it is important to talk about the Jana Nayagan film," Sarathkumar said.
Amid all the discourse around film censorship in India, director Sudha Kongara's Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan in the lead roles, have hit theatres after a delayed censorship process.
