Tamil actor Krishna was arrested by Chennai police on Thursday in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation, making him the second film personality to be taken into custody after actor Srikanth earlier this week.

According to police, Krishna was detained following a raid conducted by the Narcotics Intelligence Division of the Chennai City Police, based on leads developed after the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs near Nungambakkam railway station on May 22.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Visharani (IPS) led the operation that also resulted in the arrest of another individual, Jeshveer alias Kevin, who is accused of playing a key role in drug trafficking through encrypted messaging platforms and facilitating transactions among buyers and sellers. Kevin reportedly supplied drugs to college students and youths while allegedly using the drug trade to cover up illicit financial activities such as loan schemes.

Investigators believe Kevin was working in close coordination with actor Krishna, who has now been taken into custody and is being interrogated as part of the probe.

This marks a growing scandal within the Tamil film industry. Actor Srikanth, who was arrested on Monday, was earlier linked to T Prasad, a former AIADMK IT wing member accused of supplying narcotics. Following Srikanth's arrest, he was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody until July 7. A nine-hour interrogation at Nungambakkam Police Station and a blood test reportedly confirmed drug use.

The Narcotics Intelligence Unit had earlier arrested two key individuals in connection with the case and traced the source of the drugs to multiple states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

The investigation is ongoing, with police indicating that more arrests could follow as the network behind the trafficking operation continues to unfold.
