
Actor Srikanth, who was arrested by the Nungambakkam police on Monday for procuring and consuming drugs, has reportedly confessed his crimes at court. Following a thorough eight-hour-long investigation, a case has been filed against him under three sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act - NDPS 8c, NDPS 22b and NDPS 29(1) - for repeatedly consuming drugs and storing them more than the minimum limit.
The actor's arrest comes after he was found to be in contact with three drug peddlers who were arrested by Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) recently and authorities are also searching for actor Krishna in relation with the issue. Srikanth has now sought bail citing personal reasons, saying he needs to take care of his son.
On June 17, based on ANIU's information, the Nungambakkam Police arrested Salem-based Pradeep Kumar who was involved in drug peddling along with John, a Ghana-based man. During interrogation, 11g of coccaine was confiscated from Pradeep who told the police that he had supplied drugs to former AIADMK functionary Prasad. He had inturn sold the same to Srikanth at a pub in Nungambakkam last month.
On Monday, it was found that the actor bought the drugs at a rate of 12,000 per gram from Pradeep Kumar. The transaction had taken place 40 times, says reports. Based on Pradeep's statements, law enforcement has discovered that a transaction of Rs 4,72,000 has taken place between Srikanth and Pradeep. Srikanth was later also taken to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital to check for presence of drugs in his blood reports which was later found to be positive.
Srikanth debuted in Roja Kootam (2002) after which he continued to earn fame for his roles in April Maadhathil (2002), Parthiban Kanavu (2003), Oru Naal Oru Kanavu (2005), Poo (2008), and Nanban (2012), among others. This year, he acted in Dinasari and Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal.
