Among the many exciting new projects that JioHostar announced the other day through a grand event is Kaattaan, starring Vijay Sethupathi. Yesterday, the streamer dropped a short video giving a glimpse into its upcoming series, directed by M Manikandan of Kadaisi Vivasayi fame. The video shows Vijay Sethupathi, clad in a traditional lungi and shirt, throwing a stone into a festival crowd and walking into it with a sickle. The character gradually approaches another man, puts the sickle next to his neck, and tells the latter, "Shivettan sent me". The streamer captioned the post, "Every crime has a story. Every story has a truth."
The series, reportedly produced by Vijay Sethupathi, brings him back together with his Kadaisi Vivasayi and Aandavan Kattalai director Manikandan. It stars Milind Soman in an important role as well.
Earlier titled Muthu Engira Kaatan, it brings Vijay Sethupathi back into the web series space after a key role in Raj and DK's crime thriller Farzi, also starring Shahid Kapoor and Raashii Khanna. While the actor has not starred in a Tamil web series yet, he played a character called Bharani in the Sun TV soap opera from 2006, titled Penn.
The makers are yet to reveal further details about Kaattaan. That said, according to The Hollywood Reporter India, it is described as a layered and gritty character saga. The story is narrated from the perspectives of people surrounding the main character, which reveals different versions about the latter's personality. According to the person talking about the protagonist, he can be a monster, a myth or a miraculous man.
JioHotstar revealed through the glimpse video that it is set to release Kaattaan soon, although the streamer is yet to disclose the exact release date. Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi has Train with Mysskin, Arasan with Vetri Maaran and Silambarasan TR, and a film with Puri Jagannadh up next.
