Actor Bobby Deol, who made his Tamil film debut with Suriya’s Kanguva, recently opened up about working with Suriya and the film’s failure. In an interview with Faridoon Shahryar, the actor also spoke about his stint in South Indian films so far.

Bobby, who currently awaits the release of Jana Nayagan with Vijay, spoke about his Telugu films. “Jana Nayagan will be my fourth South Indian film. I was a part of Daaku Maharaaj, which hit theatres in January. It was a big hit, and it was great working with Bala sir (Nandamuri Balakrishna). He's literally the star of the masses,” he shared. The actor was recently seen in his sophomore Telugu film, Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1

He then added that he always wanted to work with Suriya. “I also did Kanguva, which didn't do so well. But I had always wanted to be a part of a film with Suriya, as he is a great actor.” Further, the actor spoke about the film’s failure with candour. "But what can you do when the script doesn't work out? Sometimes, I just want to be happy while shooting for a film. I want to be grateful to be a part of the film's sets. I want to be there because as an actor I can grow,” he said.

In Siruthai-fame Siva’s Kanguva, Bobby Deol played the antagonist, Udhiran, opposite Suriya’s titular character. The film follows Francis Theodore, a bounty hunter in 2024, whose connection with a child is mysteriously connected to a fierce tribal warrior's promise to a child in the year 1070. The film, which hit theatres last November, opened to underwhelming reviews and performed poorly at the box office.

Apart from Jana Nayagan, Bobby Deol has Alpha alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, and Bandar helmed by Anurag Kashyap. The latter will be premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025. It will mark the film’s world premiere. Alpha is a part of YRF's Spy Universe.
