The anticipation for actor Vijay’s last film before his full-time stint in politics is at an all-time high, as the film has moved to the post-production stage. Bobby Deol, who was recently seen in Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1, recently opened up about working with Vijay in Jana Nayagan in an interview with Faridoon Shahryar.
Opening up about why Jana Nayagan is so highly anticipated, Bobby said, “I am doing a film with Thalapathy Vijay, which is set to hit theatres for Pongal. It is his last film, as he is joining politics. At least that's what he is saying. So, that will be a big film.”
Furthermore, Bobby revealed that he got a grasp of Vijay’s stardom during his time filming for Jana Nayagan. He disclosed, “He (Vijay) is a massive star. When I asked them (the film’s team) where we are going to shoot the film, I was told that the studio is the only option. They told me that if we went on the streets, we wouldn't be able to shoot the film, as people would gather in large crowds just to see him.”
Jana Nayagan marks Bobby Deol’s fourth South Indian film after Kanguva, Daaku Maharaj, and Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1. Apart from this film, he also has Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar and Alpha with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh in the pipeline.
Along with Vijay and Bobby Deol, the film, helmed by H Vinoth, also stars Pooja Hegde, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Teejay Arunasalam, and Sunil, among others.
The film went on floors in October 2024. The makers had recently revealed a glimpse titled 'First Roar', which featured Vijay in a police avatar. It reunites Vijay with Prakash Raj after Varisu, Pooja Hegde after Beast, and Gautham Vasudev Menon after Leo. The film also reportedly stars actor Revathy as Vijay's mother. Revathi's previous collaboration with Vijay was in the 2002 film Thamizhan, where she played his sister.
On the technical front, Jana Nayagan features music composed by Anirudh, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, editing by Pradeep E Ragav, action choreography by Anl Arasu, and art direction by Selva Kumar.
Jana Nayagan is produced by Venkat K Narayana and co-produced by Lohith N K and Jagadish Palanisamy. The film will be released in theatres on January 9, 2026, for the Pongal festival season.
