Boong, which recently made history by becoming the first Indian win a BAFTA award, released in theatres today. The Lakshmipriya Devi directorial is produced by Excel Entertainment, in collaboration with Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures. On Thursday, the Boong makers held a press conference to promote the film, where the director spoke about the production banner’s support.

Addressing the media, Lakshmipriya Devi said, “Boong would have never released, if Excel hadn’t been there,” sharing more details of the support she received from Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani’s production banner.

Among other subjects, the filmmaker also spoke about the importance of having a voice, be it political or otherwise. Lakshmipriya was accompanied by co-producer Shujaat Saudagar and lead actor Gugun Kipgen at the press meet.

The film tells the story of a young Manipuri boy (Gugun Kipgen), raised by his single mother Mandakini (Bala Hijam Ningthoujam), who desires to reunite his broken family, and goes on a poignant quest with his best friend to find his missing father. The film touches on significantly important issues of hope, resilience and the bonds of child and mother.

Written and directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, kickstarting its festival journey that included screenings at the Warsaw International Film Festival, São Paulo International Film Festival, Adelaide Film Festival and Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, among others.
