The trailer of Manipuri-language movie Boong, first film from India to win a BAFTA award, was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday. Written and directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, the film has been backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures.
The trailer takes us into the life of the titular character, a kid named Boong. His father has not been home for a while and apparently works near the Manipur-Myanmar border. In order to surprise his mother, Boong, along with his two friends takes a trip to the border to find and bring back his dad.
The trailer offers a touching glimpse into this tender narrative, blending the innocence of childhood with emotionally resonant storytelling. Rooted in regional Indian storytelling yet universal in its themes, the film celebrates family, resilience and hope.
Boong won the BAFTA award in category of Best Children’s and Family film. It is scheduled to release in theatres on March 6.
