Jaafar Jackson, the son of singer Jermaine Jackson and the nephew of pop legend Michael Jackson, is getting plenty of appreciation for his performance as MJ in the recent film based on the musician's life and career. Audiences, including those who dislike the film Michael, are unanimous in their praise of Jaafar Jackson's performance in the titular role. Some of them even claim that he deserves a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in the film.
Meanwhile, Jackson made a candid revelation about his career in a recent interview. Speaking to DiscussingFilm, he revealed that he was not interested in becoming an actor from a young age itself. "It wasn't something I was dreaming of or wanted to do. At first, growing up, I wanted to be a golfer. I was into sports," he said.
The actor added that he was engaged in track and field, basketball, and tackle football at a young age. "I was interested in sports. And then not until I was around 12 or 13, my father introduced me to music, even though I grew up with a lot of music," he said.
The actor also revealed that his father once asked him to perform a Michael Jackson song in front of the King of Pop himself, a prospect that made him very concerned. "I was incredibly scared of doing it because at the time, I didn't know if I had a voice or if I could sing or not."
However, performing the song before the legendary pop singer meant that the actor's father took him to the studio more and showed him how the music creation process worked.
"I grew up always loving films and inspired by films. And just how you can get lost in it and loving those stories. But I never dreamed of wanting to be an actor until there was that moment when I had that conversation with Graham King. That's where it all started," he said. For the uninitiated, King is the producer of the Michael Jackson biopic.
