Michael Jackson is one of the most culturally significant entertainment personalities of all time. Jackson's influence went beyond his work as a musician. He is also known for his philanthropic and humanitarian endeavours, which are associated with elements of unity, global healing, and peacekeeping. The legendary pop singer used his popularity, work, and fortune for the underprivileged and to enhance social justice, which helped earn him multiple nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 1999, India presented Michael Jackson with an award at the Bollywood Awards, which took place in the New York state, for his philanthropic work and contributions to kids. Jackson often mentioned Mahatma Gandhi as one of the figures who inspired his charity work and his non-violence philosophy.

The King of Pop reiterated his admiration for Mahatma Gandhi while gracefully accepting the award at the 1999 event. At the time, he delivered what he thought was his longest speech until then.

He said, "Mahatma Gandhi knew how important bringing the world's attention was to gaining freedom for India, without using any weapons. In some ways, he was the first person to truly understand the importance of power of the public, and it gives me even greater joy and pride to be recognised by his people."

Jackson also remained humble and grounded while accepting India's recognition of his contributions as a humanitarian. "I feel undeserving to receive an award for doing something that is my duty. I accept this award as a gesture of encouragement from the people of India and a commission to do more for mankind. I love you very much," the iconic musician said at the time.

Michael Jackson's speech about Mahatma Gandhi is going viral amidst the release of the film based on his life and career, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring his nephew Jaafar Jackson in the lead role.
