Marvel Studios has remained tight-lipped about Sadie Sink's role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and director Destin Daniel Cretton says the secrecy is entirely intentional.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cretton explained that keeping details about Sink's character under wraps is meant to preserve the audience's experience. "Keeping what Sadie's doing under wraps, you'll honestly understand when you see the movie. The movie is a better movie if you don't know certain things," he said.

The filmmaker added that he would prefer audiences to know as little as possible before watching the film. "I wish people didn't know anything when they go in to watch this movie, but we're not doing it for any other reason but to protect the experience of the fans. Whoever goes on opening weekend, you are going to have a much cooler experience if you go in not knowing certain things."

Rumours surrounding Sink's role have ranged from Jean Grey and Mary Jane Watson to a completely new character, but Marvel has yet to officially confirm who she is playing.

Cretton also hinted that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will take a different creative approach instead of trying to outdo the scale of Spider-Man: No Way Home. "I don't think there's any way of trying to emulate the last movie. In terms of stakes, you can't really go bigger than that last movie," he said, adding, "Rather than trying to go bigger, we were hoping to go deeper in a different way."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks Tom Holland's fourth solo outing as Peter Parker following the events of No Way Home, which ended with the world forgetting his identity. The film also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Liza Colón-Zayas and Sadie Sink and is slated to hit theatres in India on July 30, 2026.
