The highly anticipated 97th Academy Awards, held at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, was a star-studded affair that saw Anora, a comedy-drama about a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, emerge as the biggest winner of the night. The film secured five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actress.

Mickey Madison won Best Actress for her performance in Anora, triumphing over notable contenders such as Demi Moore, Cynthia Erivo, Karla Sofía Gascón, and Fernanda Torres.

Meanwhile, Adrien Brody was awarded Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist, 22 years after his first Oscar win for The Pianist. The film, in which Brody portrays a talented yet tormented architect, also took home awards for Best Cinematography and Best Original Score.

Emilia Pérez, which made history by securing 13 nominations—the highest ever for a non-English language film—won two awards. The movie claimed Best Original Song for El Mal and earned Zoe Saldana her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The documentary No Other Land, which sheds light on the Israeli demolitions of Palestinian homes in the southern West Bank, won an Oscar in its category. Meanwhile, I’m Still Here, a family drama set against the backdrop of Brazil’s military dictatorship, was honored with Best International Feature.

The ceremony was hosted by Conan O'Brien, who led the night’s celebrations while also acknowledging the resilience of Los Angeles in the aftermath of the devastating wildfires in Southern California, which claimed 29 lives and left thousands of homes destroyed.
