After winning the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing for Anora, Sean Baker took home the Oscar for Best Director. The achievement makes Baker the first individual to bag four Oscars in one edition of the Academy Awards for the same film. Walt Disney also achieved a similar feat in 1954; only, it was for four different features. Bong Joon Ho won three Academy Awards on the same Oscar night for his work on Parasite: best picture, director, and original screenplay. Parasite also won best international feature, but this achievement technically vests with the nation and not the director concerned.

Anora is Sean Baker's eighth film. He also produced this film along with his wife and producing partner Samantha Quan. Baker is known for directing films like The Florida Project, Red Rocket, and Tangerine and to make films about marginalised communities in a humane manner. He is a filmmaker who largely makes films in the independent space.

In his Oscar acceptance speech, he mentioned the importance of watching a film in the theatres. He goes on to describe the theatrical experience as one where an audience laughs together, cries together, and screams in fright together. He also labelled his speech as a battle cry for filmmakers to keep making films for the theatres.

Anora is currently streaming in India on Book My Show Stream.
