British director Guy Ritchie has exited as director of Road House 2, reported The Hollywood Reporter. The film is a sequel to the 2024 film Road House, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead.
While no reason has been revealed for Ritchie's exit from the sequel, it would have reunited Ritchie with Gyllenhaal after the 2023 war drama The Covenant. The film centred around a US Army Green Beret, who returns to Afghanistan to rescue his interpreter.
The 2024 film, was a reimagining of the 1989 film, which starred Patrick Swayze in the lead as James Dalton. Road House (2024) followed Dalton (Gyllenhaal), an ex-UFC fighter, who joins a troublesome roadhouse in the Florida Keys, as the head bouncer. With this job he also invites trouble in the form of outsiders trying to take over the roadhouse.
Ritchie recently saw the release of his latest directorial venture, Fountain of Youth, which starred John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, and Eiza Gonzalez. It released on Apple TV+ on May 23. His upcoming lineup of projects include a Young Sherlock series for Prime Video, Wife and Dog, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike, and In The Grey, which stars Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill.
