The 1993 film Gentleman, written and directed by Shankar and starring Arjun in the lead role, is set to hit theatres worldwide again on December 11, trade analyst and columnist Sreedhar Pillai announced on Sunday. The Gentleman rerelease will come with a 4K restored print and Dolby Atmos sound.
The film's story follows a Robinhood-like thief (Arjun) who steals from the rich and helps provide for the marginalised. It also stars Madhoo (then Madhubala), Subhashri, MN Nambiar, Manorama, Rajan P Dev, Goundamani, and Senthil, among others.
Gentleman originally released way back in July 1993 and turned out to be a major hit at the box office, with its theatrical run spanning more than 175 days.
It is one of the two high-profile collaborations between Arjun and director Shankar, the other being 1999's blockbuster Mudhalvan.
One of the highlights of the film, produced by KT Kunjumon, is the music by AR Rahman. The soundtrack boasts iconic songs such as 'Chikku Bukku Rayile,' 'Usalampatti Penkutti,' 'En Veetu Thotathil,' and 'Ottagathai Kattiko'. Prabhu Deva features with Gautami as the main dancer in 'Chikku Bukku Rayile'. Further, the outdoor dance choreography by Raju Sundaram is another highlight of the production.
With the film now being set to release again in theatres, it provides old fans and a new generation of viewers an opportunity to experience it on the biggest screen possible in 4K resolution.
